Microcosm Parallels Macrocosm -- Power of Unity

Responding to qualms about "entangling alliances." Purpose of this brief piece is to show that alliances are not evil by very nature, but that the opposite can be true.

From the microcosm to the macrocosm, we see a lesson unfold: in unity is a greater purpose and potential for good than in separateness.

Consider the following progression of parallel concepts, comparing biological harmony with societal harmony.

* each electron, proton, and neutron in an atomic element is unique, yet the as an atomic element they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose together than they do individually and separate.

* each atomic element in a molecule is unique, yet it as a molecule, they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose than they do individually and separate.

* each molecule in a compound (such as a protein, enzyme, RNA, DNA) is unique, yet as a compound, they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose than they do individually and separate.

* each compound in a tissue of the body is unique, yet as a tissue structure they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose together than they do individually and separate.

* each tissue in the organ of a body is unique, yet as an organ they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose together than they do individually and separate.

* each organ in the body is unique, yet as a physical body they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose functioning together than they do as individual and separate organs.

* the body and spirit of man that make up an individual are separate and unique, yet as an individual they share some things in common and accomplish a higher purpose together than they do separately.

* each individual in a couple and the family they produce is unique, yet the family shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose together than they do as separate individuals.

* each family on a block/neighborhood is unique, yet the neighborhood shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose together than the individual families do separately.

* each neighborhood in a town is unique, yet the town shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose together than the individual neighborhoods would individually and separate.

* each town or city in a county is unique, yet the county shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose with the cities working together than if the towns or cities work individually and separately.

* each county in a state is unique, yet the state shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose than the individual counties would individually and separate.

* each state in a nation is unique, yet the nation shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose than the individual states would individually and separate.

* each nation in the world is unique, yet the world shares some things in common and accomplishes a higher purpose when the nations work together than if they remain separate and apart.

Of course as we progress to higher levels of societal structure the question of agency enters in and asks: "What are we going to do with the power of our unity?"

World government is not merely a future threat of tyrants nor is it an ideal that will take form when God comes to save this planet from destruction. No, world government is now. We already have it, just by virtue of our interactions on an international scale. Our question is How are we going to shape it?

My vote would be that by the grace of God we create a global society in which freedom prevails and individuals are enabled to pursue their highest and most noble dreams. That, I believe, is the society each of us yearns for deep down inside; and that, I believe, is our destiny as a planet -- if we choose it.

Sincerely,

Sterling D. Allan
