INTRODUCTORY EXPLANATION:
[Feb. 5, 2002] Yesterday's motion to require a 'yes' on the tithe of a tithe vote in order to
continue membership has been withdrawn.
For those of you subscribed with the "special notices" option, you might want to take a
peek at the rs_public archives from yesterday's hotly contested debate on this subject in which
nearly 100 messages were logged.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rs_public/messages/488
In the end, we agreed that the topic should now be placed on the back-burner and the heat turned
down, and that the "Building the Ideal Government" task as outlined at http://rsicc.org/Form/
should be brought into the front burner.
I still feel very strongly about the rightness of the tithe of a tithe principle, but my approach
yesterday was out of line in terms of the method I proposed for implementing this and obtaining
initial unanimous consent. That is why I have withdraw the motion along with the associated motions
made yesterday.
Specifically, I have withdrawn the new motions specified in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rs_public/message/488
I've added a link to yesterday's debate to the Topical Discussion index regarding the subject of a
Tithe of a Tithe, which index includes links to comments on the subject prior to yesterday's heated
debate.

I still feel at some point it would be good to arrive at unanimous consent on this question. The
time to push for that is not now, and the forced unanimity method I proposed is definitely not the
way to accomplish it. The vote on this is probably weeks away, now, to give us time to adequately
address it and hopefully come to a consensus.
In the mean time, I have add a statement to the membership checklist form where a person can opt to
make this commitment when becoming an official member of the guild. This way, new members coming in
at least have the option of making such a commitment upon entry if they wish. I have left in place
the statement that asks them to acknowledge that they are aware that the current recommendation is a
minimum monthly donation of $10.00.
The wording now reads:
<QUOTE>
Currently, the suggested minimum monthly donation is $10.00.
However, each member is strongly encouraged to commit to contribute at least a tithe of a tithe (1%)
of their net increase to RSICC. Eventually, such a commitment may be established as a stipulation
for membership. For now it is optional, but highly recommended.
"I now hereby commit to contribute at least a tithe of a tithe of my net increase to the
support of RSICC."
o Yes (optional but preferable)
o No
<END QUOTE>
This wording is now found at:
http://www.rsicc.org/Members/Checklist/active.htm
and
http://www.rsicc.org/Members/Checklist/honrary.htm
I've also created a page where current members of RSICC can, if they choose, sign their commitment
to contribute at least a tithe of a tithe of their net increase. It is worded the same as the above
statement. That way, at least those RSICC members who currently agree with this principle can go
ahead and commit to it.
It is found at
http://www.rsicc.org/Donations/TitheofaTithe/commit.htm
I also intend to add some kind of indication (e.g. a green checkmark) next to the names of the
members who thus commit. This will be displayed on the main RSICC membership page at:
http://www.rsicc.org/Members/
I'm asking that the guild sustain these actions I have taken. To vote yes on this does not mean you
support the concept of a tithe of a tithe. It means that you agree that those who wish to make this
commitment should be given the opportunity to do so. Technically, I do not think this requires guild
approval because it is a matter of choice. But because the wording is being added to the checklist
document, whose completion is required for membership (though a yes on this tithe point is not
required), I feel it is a matter of courtesy to receive the guild's blessing on these actions.
